TMB revokes psychiatrist’s license

A 51 year-old San Antonio psychiatrist has lost his license after the Texas Medical Board discovered he opened a joint checking account with one of his patients. This revocation comes more than two years after he was reprimanded for having a sexual relationship with another patient.

The board says the physician overstepped his boundaries with the patient. It says also claims it found that he had prescribed opiates to the patient, who has a history of drug abuse and was being treated for psychotic thoughts and bipolar disorder.

In 2009, the board charged him a $10,000 fine for a similar violation: prescribing a patient controlled substances without reviewing her medical history. The woman had previously been a drug abuser and was in therapy for depression and suicidal thoughts. She is the same patient with whom he continued a sexual relationship with while treating her.
