Dentist’s license suspended in Memphis over unsanitary practices

The State of Tennessee Department of Health recently suspended the professional license of a dentist in Memphis, an article of Fox 13 reported on July 7. The dentist was also ordered to close his office after complaints of unsanitary conditions were filed against him.

The Department of Health began investigating Alfred Brown after receiving a complaint about the unsanitary practices he used at his office on the 2600 block of Lamar Avenue. The board discovered that Brown did not consistently change gloves between patients and that he recycled dental crowns between patients. On May 26, health investigators made a surprise visit to Brown’s clinic to confirm that his clinic was indeed severely unsanitary. The dentist refused to provide further information to investigators. Brown had his license suspended due to other violations in the 1990’s as well.
