Virginia lawyer’s license suspended due to “impairment”

A veteran lawyer in Christiansburg, Virginia recently had his license suspended by the state’s bar disciplinary board on “impairment grounds,” an article of The Roanoke Times reported on August 19.

Reports state that an indefinite license suspension was ordered against 69-year-old lawyer Henry Whitehurst on August 15 due to impairment issues. Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board spokesperson Edward Davis explained that impairment in this context is defined as an incapability of a lawyer to practice law due to mental or physical unfitness. Though details of Whitehurst’s suspension were not released, reports speculate that it may possibly stem from several drinking and driving incidents the previous year. Suspension may be reversed once the impairment is determined to be resolved.
