An Austin dentist and former owner of Austin Smiles has received a five year prison sentence after search warrants of his home and office turned up over eight thousand pictures of child pornography and 121 movies.
An investigation of the man was sparked after the Cyber Crimes Unit of the attorney general’s office received an anonymous tip that someone had uploaded child pornography on a MSN online forum.
The maximum sentence for possessing child pornography is ten years, but the judge gave the former dentist a more lenient sentence since he voluntarily began seeking help for sexual addiction and has kept up with treatment. The father and grandfather will have to register as a sex offender, pay a $25,000 fine, and surrender his dental license.
