Patients of a psychiatrist in Beaumont were recently surprised to find that the doctor had temporarily shut down his practice because his license to pratice psychiatry was suspended by the Texas Medical Board.
The psychiatrist, Dr. Desai, was accused of participating in sexual behavior with some of his patients. Desai’s order of suspension stated that he went to a female patients house and told her that, instead of medication, she needed a boyfriend. Desai also showed suggestive material to the mother of one of his child patients.
The manager of Desai’s office told reporters that his license will be reinstated in April. However, officials of the Texas Medical Board said that suspended licenses can take months or years to reinstate, and it is not certain that Desai will have his license reinstated in April.
